Introduction

Girgaon Dhwajapathak, group of mere 20 persons from Girgaon –Mumbai, started concept of preserving Maharashtra culture by playing traditional instruments in the year 2005.

Girgaon Dhwajapathak is the first group who has introduced the Dhol and Dhwaj formation culture in Mumbai.

We are carrying this responsibility consistently over period of 18 years now with continuous improvement in quantity as well as in quality.

Today's Youth is being widely criticized for their undisciplined behaviour and easy to go lucky approach towards life.

This is an honest attempt to revive the attitude of young India and channelize the strength to positive things.

Our Concept

Girgaon Dhwajapathak has a troop of approx. 500 youngsters who are going to participate in the Maharashtrian New Year welcome procession called "Gudhi Padwa Yatra", organized by Swami Vivekanand Yuva Pratishthan.

The troop will include approximately 300 members including boys and girls who will play traditional instruments like:

  • 50 Dhol
  • 20 Tashe
  • 1 Toll
  • 4 Halagi
  • 4 Duff
  • 1 Tutari

Additionally, there will be a group of traditionally dressed approx. 200 boys and girls who will perform on the rhythm of traditional instruments with complete uniformity and discipline. There will be spectacular Dhwaj formations included which will be performed with various traditional tunes/notations.
